In 2014 I composed an original piece of music & created a collaborative percussive instrument to be performed at the first Berkeley Multimedia Orchestra performance.
The composition was written for guitar, vocals, bass, cello, drums, and a custom instrument build with a hollowed piece of metal mic-d and controlled with a set of effects parameters made with Max/MSP. The end of the piece focused on a percussive rhythm and while one (or multiple people) struck the instrument, others were able to control the original effects patches which included a phasor, pitch shift, delay modulation, and reverb.
This resulted in a 10-minutes piece that ended in an improvised collaboration with acoustic percussion and a digital audio manipulation.
